It happens when I go to turn off the PC and the power button indicator shows "Shut Down" with an exclamation point over it, indicating that it needs to perform updates. What I want to know is how to avoid receiving the message I initially wrote about. I have also successfully run Windows update since then. I have since run several utilities, each of which found no problems.

I ended up manually powering down the computer, and then restarting it. I am referring to the same black screen menu that appears after a systems crash which allows you the choice of booting up in Safe Mode.
